Saskatoon fire department responded to a early morning garage fire at 215 Avenue E South. Trucks from # One hall, # Two hall, and a rescue truck from #Six hall responded to the incident.

At 16:43 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a report of a truck pulling a boat trailer, and they had both slid into the river and become submerged. The incident took place at the public boat launch on Spadina Crescent.

The Fire Department responded with five water trained personnel and the Battalion Chief. Once crews arrived and assessed the scene, the decision to use rescue divers to hook cables up to the trailer first, then the truck, and pull them both out with the use of two tow trucks was agreed upon.

Just before 2:00 PM the Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a two vehicle collision at 33rd Street and Circle Drive. One Engine, one Rescue Unit, and a Battalion Chief responded.

The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to a grass fire at 09:17 this morning. The fire was just West of Chappell Drive. An Engine, Brush truck, Tanker, and the Battalion Chief were initially dispatched.

First arriving crews immediately attacked the main body of the grass fire to gain control of it. A second Brush truck and Tanker were called to assist at the scene to assist with fire extension further to the West. The fire was contained, under control, and extinguished in approximately one hour.

Today, the Saskatoon Fire Department welcomes eleven new firefighters who bring with them a host of knowledge and experience as they begin their careers with the fire service in Saskatoon.

“Each of the eleven firefighters have shown great initiative through prior experience, community involvement, and the thorough recruitment process in preparing to join the Saskatoon Fire Department,” says Fire Chief Morgan Hackl. “Today we celebrate their significant achievement.”

At approximately 1:55 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received an emergency transmission over the radio from a Saskatoon Transit operator reporting a large grass fire in the area of 11th Street West and Fairlight Drive. 

One brush truck and one water tanker were immediately dispatched for response.

At approximately 12:56 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a 54-foot shipping container on fire in the yard of 2435 Schuyler Street. Fire dispatchers obtained additional information from the caller for responding fire crews and quickly identified the product inside the shipping container to be a non-hazardous animal byproduct.

Three fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, and one battalion chief were dispatched for immediate response. One fire investigation unit was later requested for response.

Saskatoon Fire Department responds to a four-plex fire at 501 Avenue H South

At 05:11 this evening The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a house was on fire at 501 Avenue H South. 

Three Engines an Aerial Ladder a Heavy Rescue Truck and a Battalion Chief were dispatched to the scene.

Each year, water enthusiasts head out to the many lakes and rivers across the country to indulge in water sports and activities. The Saskatoon Fire Department emphasizes the importance of having and maintaining the proper flotation equipment.

Lifejackets and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are extremely important pieces of equipment when in or around bodies of water. Slight variations between the function and purpose of lifejackets and PFDs exist; however, both act as a life-saving flotation device.

At approximately 03:30 on Tuesday May 28th the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call from a neighbor of flames coming from the rear of 2015 20th St West. Three engines, one ladder truck, a heavy rescue and battalion chief were dispatched.

At 22:59 hrs the Saskatoon Fire Department dispatched an Engine company to a reported car fire behind 342 Ave R south, on arrival a garbage can, car and the deck on the first floor of an apartment building were on fire. An additional 2 Engines, Aerial truck, Rescue truck and Battalion chief were dispatched to assist with the fire.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and evacuated the apartment building. Fire crews searched the building to ensured the fire had not spread and remained on scene to remove smoke form the building.

At approximately 8:11 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke in the hallway and the fire alarm sounding at an apartment building located at 235 Stillwater Drive. The source of the smoke was believed to be coming from suite 104.

Three fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were immediately dispatched for response.

At approximately 9:11 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a multi-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer unit at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 41.

Two fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, and one battalion were immediately dispatched for response.

At approximately 4:08 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received an initial 911 call reporting a fence on fire in the 400 block of Avenue T South. One fire engine was dispatched for response. Several additional 911 calls reported multiple shed-like storage structures on fire at this same location. Two additional fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were also dispatched to respond.

At approximately 1:10 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a possible house on fire at 1037 Mahoney Avenue. Fire dispatchers worked with the caller to obtain more information for responding fire crews, identifying that flame could be seen coming from the deck of the house.

Three fire engines, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial ladder truck, one fire investigation unit, and one battalion chief were immediately dispatched for response.

The Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls beginning at approximately 6:53 pm reporting a house fire on Whelan Crescent resulting in the dispatch of 3 engine companies, a ladder company, a rescue company and a battalion chief.  The first arriving firefighters discovered two houses involved in fire and another two homes threatened to be exposed to the fire.  A request was made for an additional 2 engine companies and a fire investigator.

At approximately 8:09 this morning, the Saskatoon Fire Department was alerted to a motor vehicle collision on 8th Street East at the Circle Drive overpass. 

Two Fire Engines, one Heavy Rescue Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response. Upon arrival of the first responding fire crew, it was observed that a single motorcycle had overturned and that extrication would not be required.

At approximately 9:44 P.M. on Saturday May 18, 2019, The Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a possible kitchen fire at 3134 11 th St W.  The fire department responded with 3 engines, 1 ladder company, 1 rescue company and a battalion chief. 

When crews arrived they found there was no remaining fire as the sprinklers had been activated as a result of a grease fire in the kitchen on the fourth floor of the apartment building.  Fire crews treated one man on scene for minor burns before he was transported to hospital for further treatment.

Saskatoon Fire Department crews responded to a reported structure fire shortly after midnight.  Upon arrival crews found a fully involved rear detached garage.The fire was quickly extinguished.  Investigator deemed fire to be accidental, caused by a Chiminea that had holes in the base causing hot embers to fall onto the wooden deck below, start it on fire and spread to the garage.  Damage is estimated at $40 000.00

The Saskatoon Fire Department was called to two fires overnight.  The first was report at midnight indicated a garage on fire at the 1600 block Ave C North.  Dispatched to the scene were three engines, one ladder, one rescue, one battalion chief and one fire investigator.  First arriving firefighters found a garage fully involved in fire.  There has yet to be a cause determined and remains under investigation.  Fire damage is estimated at $40,000.

Just before midnight the Saskatoon Fire Department received a call from an alarm company indicating that a Fire Alarm had been activated at the Lawson Heights Mall located at 134 Primrose Drive. 

Three Fire Engines, one Aerial Ladder Truck, one Battalion Chief and a Fire Investigation Unit were dispatched to the incident.

 At 17:30 this afternoon, Saskatoon Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 423 Avenue Q South. Three Engine Companies, one Ladder Company, one Rescue Unit, and one Battalion Chief responded.

On arrival, the Incident Commander reported smoke coming from the basement suite of a raised bungalow. The family upstairs was evacuated by Fire personnel while simultaneously, another crew entered the basement to attack the fire and complete a primary search for basement occupants.

On Monday, April 29th, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a mutual aid request from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency on behalf of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to respond to the area of Kamsack, Saskatchewan for a water recovery operation on the Assiniboine River. The Office of Emergency Management in Saskatoon worked with municipal, provincial, and federal partners to coordinate and initiate response to the area.

The Saskatoon Fire Department has welcomed two experienced trainers from the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) to deliver a strategically designed program highlighting the importance of behavioural health and peer support in emergency services.

House Fire at 19 Barr Place

At 05:36 am The Saskatoon Fire Department received a call from Saskatoon Police reporting a house with smoke showing at 19 Barr Place.

The fire investigation into the cause of this fire concluded late last night.  It has been determined the cause of the fire was the result of the improper disposal of smoking materials into a combustible container.  The Fire Investigator was able to conclude cigarettes were being butted into a plastic container.

The estimated damage to structures is $1,000,000.00.

The fire investigation has wrapped up on Langlois Way.  The fire originated on an exterior balcony while the cause of the fire was determined to be smoking materials improperly discarded into a flower pot.  The structure is a six unit, three storey townhouse.  Heavy fire, smoke and water damage were sustained to three units.

Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls beginning at 4:34 p.m. reporting a house fire on Salloum Union in Evergreen.  Dispatched to the scene were 3 Engines, a Rescue, a Ladder, and a Battalion Chief.  While on route a  911 caller reported fire had spread to a second house and all occupants had evacuated. 

Fire crews arrived and observed two single family residences heavily involved in fire.  Incident Command initiated a second alarm calling for two additional Engines and a Fire Investigator.

Fire Crews have brought the fire under control and are continuing to work on hotspots.  Extensive fire damage has made access to portions of the structure a challenge.

On arrival to this incident fire crews observed a 3 storey multi-unit townhouse with a single unit fully involved in fire with fire spreading to neighbouring units.  After a search for occupants, firefighters were able to confirm there were no injuries.

Fire crews remain on scene and a fire investigation has begun to determine the cause of the fire.

 

April 27, 2019 - 11:10am

Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls beginning at 9:17 a.m. reporting a structure fire on Langlois Way.  Dispatched to the scene were 3 Engines, a Ladder, a Rescue and a Battalion Chief. 

After initial size-up of the incident, there was request for an additional Engine and a Fire Investigator.

A search of building has confirmed the building has been vacated.

Fire crews are remain on scene.

At approximately 12:05 pm today Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a grass fire in the area of Highways 7 and 60.  A Brush Trucks, Water Tanker, an Engine and a Battalion Chief responded to assist scene. After an initial size up of the situation, the Incident Commander requested the dispatch of an additional Brush Truck and Water Tanker.

A Fire Investigator has ruled the cause of a fire that occurred at 143 Nordstrum Road as undetermined. The structure and its contents received extensive damage as a result of the fire; damage has been estimated at $350,000.

The Saskatoon Fire Department has concluded its on scene investigation into this incident.

At 02:52 the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call, from the occupant of #97-219 Grant Street reporting smoke in her mobile home. Three Engines, one Ladder Company, and the Battalion Chief were dispatched to the scene.

Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls at approx. 01:40, reporting a house on fire at the rear of 143 Nordstrum Road. Three Engines, one Ladder Company, one Rescue Unit, and the Battalion Chief responded to the scene.

At 06:56 this morning the Saskatoon Fire Department received a single 9-1-1 call reporting a fire in an apartment building with a person possibly trapped inside.  Thee Engine companies, one Ladder Truck, One Heavy Rescue Truck and a Battalion Chief responded.  On arrival, the first in crew noted heavy black smoke from an apartment window on the second floor south side of the three story apartment building.

Saskatoon Fire Department responds to assist Dalmeny Fire Department with large brush fire.

At approximately 2:30 yesterday afternoon Saskatoon Fire Department received a request for Mutual aid from Dalmeny Fire Department to assist with a large brush fire that was threatening farm yards and homes 4 miles west of the city.  Two Brush Trucks, two Water Tankers, an Engine and a Battalion Chief responded to assist with the firefighting efforts.

A large brush fire south-west of Saskatoon along Strathcona Avenue was brought under control late into the evening on April 16, 2019; the under control was called at around 8:50 p.m., constituting a total burn time of approximately 6 hours and 45 minutes.

At approximately 2:04 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting trees on fire in a yard near Riverside Estates, a rural neighbourhood adjacent to Strathcona Avenue. 

Three Fire Engines, three Brush Trucks, two Water Tankers, two Battalion Chiefs, and two Assistant Chiefs have been dispatched for response. Additional Fire Engines will be dispatched throughout the duration of the incident to relieve fire crews working on scene.

At approximately 2:54 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a person in the water near the Circle Drive Bridge.

Two Fire Engines, one Water Rescue Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response. Fire Dispatchers worked with the callers on scene to obtain a description and approximate location of the individual for responding water rescue crews. The Water Rescue Unit deployed one boat onto the river for the retrieval of the lone individual.

April 16, 2019 - 4:35pm

Saskatoon Fire Department received reports of two vehicle MVC just before four O'clock this afternoon. A passenger van had rolled onto its side with reports of trapped occupants and unknown injuries.

Two Engines, one Heavy Rescue Unit, and a Battalion Chief responded. On arrival, a van was on its side and it was immediately verified by Fire crews that the occupant had self extricated.

There were no reports of injuries from any persons involved.

Fire crews completed fluid and debris clean-up before leaving the scene.

At approximately 12:33 this afternoon the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 9-1-1 call from a passer by reporting a large grass/brush fire near the intersection of Hwy. 14 West and Range Road 3074.  One Engine company, one Brush Truck and one Tanker Truck responded to this area.  Upon leaving city limits the senior officer reported heavy smoke west of the city being blow by a strong South wind gusting to 48 kph.

At approximately 4:15 this afternoon, The Saskatoon Fire Department received a call reporting a large grass fire North East of Saskatoon.

One Fire Engine, two Brush Trucks and two Water Tankers were dispatched to the incident.

First arriving apparatus found a large grass fire located between two residential yards. Fire crews brought the fire under control within 30 minutes. Two small out buildings were destroyed by the fire and a third out building received some fire damage. The fire was contained to approximately 5 acres.

At approximately 4:45 A.M. on Friday April 12, 2019, the Saskatoon Fire Department received one 911 call reporting a house fire at 534 Wollaston Terrace.  Three engines, one aerial and one heavy rescue responded to the call and found a home and attached garage fully involved with fire.

A Fire Investigator has determined that the fire at 130 Avenue U South was accidental in nature as a result of a faulty electrical receptacle. A short in the wiring configuration subsequently resulted in the ignition of a nearby mattress. Damage has been estimated at $80,000.

Fire Investigators have since cleared the scene and the Saskatoon Fire Department has concluded its involvement in this incident.

At approximately 12:56 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a mattress on fire in an upstairs bedroom of a residential house located at 130 Avenue U South.

Three Fire Engines, one Heavy Rescue Unit, one Aerial Ladder Truck, one Fire Investigation Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response. 

Upon arrival, all occupants had self-evacuated from the residence with no reported injuries or complications. Utility technicians were requested to shut off services to the house, creating a safer work environment for fire crews.

At approximately 1:39 this afternoon, the Saskatoon Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a two vehicle collision on the Traffic Bridge.

One Fire Engine, one Heavy Rescue Unit, and one Battalion Chief were dispatched for response. Upon arrival of the first responding fire crew, a Mini Cooper with two occupants and a Ford Escape with a lone occupant appeared to have collided head-on. It was determined that extrication would be required to remove one occupant from the Mini Cooper.
