For immediate release: May 3, 2019 - 10:19am
FI 19-367

The City of Saskatoon's Emergency Management Organization (EMO) will send residents of Saskatoon a notifynow test message next week on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Stay informed, and stay connected with notifynow! notifynow messages can help you be better prepared and less vulnerable in the event of a city-wide emergency or one affecting only one city block. The notifynow emergency notification system can send residents timely, trusted and targeted public safety messages. For example, a notifynow message could be sent to tell you what to do, where to go and what to expect - if there was an impending, escalating or occurring emergency situation in Saskatoon.

What residents should know about the notifynow test message Tuesday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m.

  • if you have a publicly listed phone number, you are automatically in the notifynow emergency notification system
  • the notifynow test message will clearly indicate ‘this is a TEST message’
  • notifynow is a free service; but remember, we can’t reach you if your communication information is not up-to-date
  • notifynow messages can be sent to you by text, voice recording, email or through TTY numbers
  • you can choose to receive notifynow messages for up to five addresses i.e. your child’s school, parents address, etc.
  • if you have an unlisted or not publicly available phone number, have just moved to Saskatoon, or do not have a landline, you will need to sign-up at saskatoon.ca/notifynow and customize your communication profile to tell us how you prefer to be contacted by notifynow

The Emergency Management Organization tests the notifynow mass notification system twice yearly to familiarize Saskatoon residents with how a notifynow message sounds, and to help be better prepared to respond appropriately in a real emergency situation. Testing the notifynow system also helps to assess the accuracy of the resident database.

The notifynow emergency notification system supports the City of Saskatoon’s Strategic Goals of Continuous Improvement and Quality of Life; EMO uses the notifynow technology to serve and connect with residents, keeping health and safety a top priority every day.

Expect to receive a notifynow test message next week on Tuesday, May 7 at 7:00 p.m. or shortly thereafter.
