The McOrmond Drive and College Drive interchange, which has been under construction since the spring of 2017, is now open. All traffic movements are fully operational.

Construction of an interchange at Boychuk Drive and Highway 16 also got underway in 2017 and is expected to be complete this summer.

Both intersections had been experiencing rapid increases in traffic volume, delays and collisions as development continued in surrounding neighbourhoods. The most effective way to reduce the issues was to build the two new interchanges.

Weather permitting, the City will be resurfacing Warman Road southbound between Circle Drive and 7th Avenue this weekend. The work will take place overnight on Saturday and Sunday (June 2 & 3) between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

While work is underway, there will be a complete closure to southbound traffic at this location. Signage will advise road users to take an alternate route.

Due to the lack of precipitation and above average temperatures this week, park areas have begun to receive irrigation ahead of the City’s annual June 1 activation date. 

Based on the approved budget, City parks will receive up to 25mm (1 inch) of water per week until August 31, 2019.  If natural precipitation occurs, adjustments will be made. 

It is important to remember even with the budgeted regular watering program, some irrigated turf areas may remain brown until favourable weather conditions return.

Access Transit served their first customer in 2004, and is currently a part of the family of services offered by Saskatoon Transit. Access Transit serves those who are unable to use conventional transit with safety and dignity.

The public is invited to celebrate National AccessAbility Week and Access Transit’s 15th anniversary on Thursday, May 30, 2019 (10:00.a.m. to 2:00 p.m.). Burgers, hotdogs, coffee and games will be part of the event.

In response to the early heat wave this week, the City’s Emergency Management Organization (EMO) has activated the Saskatoon Heat Response Strategy to support citizens in Saskatoon, especially those vulnerable to the heat.

The City continues to replace the water and sewer lines in two of Saskatoon’s oldest neighbourhoods. This year, the priority is the City Park and Riversdale neighbourhoods where work has been underway for a few weeks.

“The water and sewer lines in these neighbourhoods are about 100 years old,” says Matt Jurkiewicz (yurr-KEV’-ich), Interim Director, Construction and Design. “The replacement projects include upgrading the pipes and also replacing the lead connections to homes that are also outdated.”

Cool off this summer at any of the City of Saskatoon spray pads in various locations around the city.  Summer spray pads will open for the season on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 10 a.m., and will be operational daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Please note, spray pad sites located on or near school grounds have timers and are set to turn spray features off during recess and lunch breaks.  Shut-off times will vary according to individual school schedules.  All spray pads are activated by push buttons located near the spray features.

Saskatoon Transit’s 2nd Annual Student Art Contest closes Thursday, May 30. Grade three and seven students can submit artwork representing Active Transportation to their teachers by the end of the school day. Teachers must email Saskatoon Transit (transit.services@Saskatoon.ca) by 5:00 p.m to let us know you have a pick-up. 

Two winners will be chosen, one from each grade to have their art displayed on City transit buses throughout the summer.

At its meeting today, City Council approved Bylaw No. 9572, The Traffic Amendment Bylaw, 2019 that increases the city-wide on-street parking limit from 36 hours to 72 hours, except as otherwise indicated by a sign or provided for in the bylaw.

This Amendment does not change the requirements for recreational vehicles or parking restrictions for street maintenance.  Recreational vehicles will continue to have a 36-hour restriction and then must not park on a city street for at least 48 hours.

The City is twinning a section of Wanuskewin Road north of the 71st Street intersection beginning on Monday, May 27 at 9:00 a.m. Wanuskewin Road will remain open with two-way traffic maintained in the northbound lanes. Forestry Farm Park Drive will be undergoing road reconstruction starting 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 27. The work is expected to take four days to complete, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.

During this time, Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo will remain open. Detours will be in place to ensure access to the park and zoo. Parking will be restricted around the work zone. 

Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo will be closed early at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 27 and Wednesday, May 29 to complete the reconstruction in main access areas.

The City of Saskatoon, Métis Nation - Saskatchewan and Saskatoon Tribal Council, along with the 98 business and community organization members of Reconciliation Saskatoon gathered in Civic Square outside City Hall today to raise the Reconciliation flag. In honour of the warriors who endured the residential school era, the ceremony also remembers all those affected by the Sixties Scoop, Day Schools, and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

As work continues on the McOrmond Drive and College Drive interchange, crews will be closing the ramp that allows eastbound traffic on College Drive to go northbound on McOrmond Drive. The ramp will be closed for one day - Saturday, May 25, 2019 beginning at 5:00 a.m.

To go northbound onto McOrmond Drive, drivers will continue east onto the exit ramp and turn left at the stop sign on top of the interchange.

Work on the McOrmond Drive and College Drive interchange and the new interchange at Boychuk Drive and Highway 16 will be complete this summer.
