 COVID-19 Response for Saskatoon Residents

On March 19, 2020, the City decided to close public access to City Hall and all City buildings, including fire stations, leisure facilities, attractions and Saskatoon Public Library locations. While we are closed to the public, our business operations continue to ensure core services for our residents as much as possible. Public transit currently remains operational.

Transportation Choices

“20% of people use cycling, walking, or transit to get to work” measures our success in significantly increasing the proportion of transit users and cyclists and decreasing the proportion of people who drive to work.

How are we doing?

In 2016, approximately 12.1% of Saskatoon residents reported using cycling, walking or transit to get to work through the Statistics Canada 2016 Census.  This represents a slight increase from 2011 (11.5%). Our next report will come after the 2021 Census data is collected and published.

Description

The target measures our success in significantly increasing the proportion of transit users and cyclists and decreasing the proportion of people who drive to work.

The target uses census data from the National Household Survey and reflects only trips to work.  The Transportation Division will work towards providing an alternative indicator to estimate what mode of transportation people use to cross the river.
