Family Fun February

Check out free winter activities and events happening this February for youth and families.
 

Winter Play Program - Ages 6-12* | January 21 - March 9 (Registered Program)

The Winter Play Program is designed to encourage physical activity while developing new – and improving existing – skills in classic Canadian or Indigenous winter sports. This year's activities include learn-to-curl, learn-to-snowshoe, learn-to-snowskate, learn-to-altai skis, and snowshoe making! All activities are FREE and anyone age 6 - 12* years is welcome to attend.

*Age varies depending on the activity. Please the check descriptions below for the specific age range of the activity you are interested in.

  • Learn to Curl (8-12 yrs): Develop skills in the classic Canadian sport that involves sliding stones down a sheet of ice, towards a target. All participants must wear a helmet in order to participate in the activity. (Those with their own helmets are encouraged to bring it with them, otherwise, helmets will be provided to those who do not have one.) Participants are also required to bring clean, indoor gym shoes.​​​

  • Learn to Snowshoe** (6-12 yrs): Develop skills in this low-impact sport while exploring one of Saskatoon's community parks.

  • Learn to Snowskate** (6-12 yrs): Snowskating is a hybrid winter sport that combines elements of snowboarding and skateboards; think of skateboarding on snow!

      • Saturday, February 8:   1:00 - 4:00 p.m.  ~ CD1384-01
         
  • Learn to Altai Skis** (6-12 yrs): Altai Skis is a hybrid ski that combines the maneuverability of snowshoes with the gliding qualities of cross-country skis.

  • Snowshoe Making (10-12 yrs): An Elder will guide youth through the art of making the snowshoes, while also explaining their history and importance within Indigenous culture.

**Activities will be cancelled if the temperature reaches -25°C or below (with the windchill).

February Break Camp - Ages 10-14 | February 18-20 (Registered Program)

Get active during the school break by learning new sports and activities led by qualified instructors. All camps are FREE and are open to anyone between the ages of 10 - 14 years. Participants are encouraged to register in – and attend – as many camps as they like!

Family Day Skate - Everyone Welcome | February 17

Bring your skates and safety gear and come out for an afternoon of winter fun at the FREE Family Day Skate! Everyone is welcome.

Skating will take place at the Cosmo Arena, while non-skating activities will be offered in the gymnasium, as well as outdoors, and will include Indigenous teachings and more! Please dress warmly.
